Anxious and hopeful for its return

While I had so much fun from my last vacation in the Philippines, my trip back to the U.S. on January 21st was a nightmare. It's because one of our 4 checked-in luggages got lost. It has been almost two months since then and still they have not sent us our bag back. We've filed Claim Baggage Report immediately at the airport in Arkansas and Baggage Tracing/Claim Form for the United Airlines. They say the forms would help them trace effectively the lost luggage but how come until now we still haven't gotten it back. It's ridiculous! The last time we saw it was at the Customs in Chicago airport so we assumed it's not going to take this long to trace it but we were dead wrong. I tell you it's so frustrating. More than anything else, most of the contents in that luggage have so much value to us since those are supposed to be "pasalubong" or gifts to our friends and Jeff's family here in the U.S. I guess we can claim compensation for that but that wouldn't bring my new clothes, souvenirs and wedding gifts back. I am really sad and disappointed with United Airlines. The last word we got from them was an email last week saying that they are still effectively tracing for our luggage. I'm hoping that we can still get it back but something tells me that I should not keep my hopes up or I'd just end up disappointed. Customer service in this company really sucks! You can't even get a hold of a real person on the phone. It's really such a stressful predicament. Whatever may be the outcome of this whole search, I would never consider flying with United Airlines again.

  1. We had some experience too with lost things but ours was a lost package. During our vacation last year in the PI, we bought some baby clothes among other stuffs and sent the package here(it's cheaper compared to paying fee for over baggage). Two of the packages consisting of not really essential stuffs arrived but the one that contained the baby clothes and stuffs that we shopped (imagine mula sa first day na damit upto first year, among other things) didn't.

We sent the package in July and until the first week of September, I was still hoping it would arrive. Para naman may maisusuot ang baby ko paglabas, we decided to buy na lang here (which is comparatively more costly) and would you believe, the next day the baby decided to come out. Awww, i think she's just waiting that mommy & daddy buy her clothes bago lumabas. LOL!

About the package, it never arrived. We traced the records, it didn't left PI. Oh well...

  3. Goodness gracious---that's a true nightmare right there. I'd keep filing my claims, and follow-up with United Airlines weekly until 1.) you get the luggage returned 2.) have a hefty monetary compensation. That's just ridiculous. 2 months?!? That's unacceptable. They need to resolve this and do it fast. If you can't get any help, I'd file a report against them.

I really do hope you can somehow get your luggage back. I know all the stuff inside is precious to you (esp. the wedding gifts) and the gifts for the family.

  4. That's so sad to hear Jenn. Its not just the luggage but the value inside that luggage. Mag two months na rin wala pa silang feedback. That's bad service. So far, and thank God, I dont have any experience like that in Northwest Airline.

-that's sad. kung ano yung pinakaimportane un pa ung nawala, kainis! :) perfect timing pala paglabas ni bb meron na cya damit. yeah i know it's frutrating talaga to wait for sometihng na nde naman guaranteed na darating.

i was thinking of having my family sent me some goodies back home to the US pero based on your experience, parang natakot tuloy akong magpost office. pero mahal naman kasi pag UPS or Fedex. Oh well.

-yes it's really horrible. 2 months na. i never thought it would take this long not unless the luggage was really lost which is odd coz one would think why would it get lost if it was just in the vicinity of the airport or at the planes. so im still hoping it's just misplaced somewhere. the email says the tracing would take another 2 months before we would hear from them if it's declared unretrievable then they would compensate us but to how much im not sure. ive read its not that much. for me no amount could compensate the contents there. it's just disappointing that no matter how often they do these stuff, still they could not be effective with what they are doing. :(

-i havent flown northwest airlines yet. but yeah 2 months na jud. well we have heard from them but it's just that it seems like they are not really doing their best. they are very inefficient. so maybe we shud seriously consider not flying with them anymore. but yeah i really want my luggage back.

  17. How unfortunate. I would feel sad too if my gifts to family and friends were lost during a flight. Hope you get them back because no compensation from the airline is going to make up for your loss.

yes, it's sad indeed. we heard from them today. they said they found the luggage apparently the 3rd party baggage contractor have not delivered it to us yet. and she mentioned something about compensating us for that luggage. it was my hubby who talked to the woman on the phone. hubby told her it was irreplaceable. and since they found it alraeyd, they better do sometihng to send it to us. she said she's going to contact the contractor again and have them send to us the luggage. whew! this whole thing is stressing me out so much.

  20. Jenn, I've got a friend who used to work for UA. I'll ask her if there's really anything else you can do to recover or be compensated (more monetarily) for your luggage. I really hope it turns up at home for you though!

  21. That's one of the things I don't like here in America---you can't get hold of a person without waiting for a freakin 10 to 15 minutes on hold while listening to a machine.

I feel sorry for that lost luggage....
I'd be bothered and upset too if that happened to me. Sige lang, makit-an ra na ug mauli na na very soon.

  22. oh no, that is so unfortunate. I hope they'll be able to trace it soon.
